Known as Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University is an all-women university located in Vijayapura district. The unique feature of KSWU is the flexible and progressive policies for women to enable them to continue their education even after an academic gap due to marriage, childbirth or any other family responsibilities. Also, there is a daycare centre called ‘Chinnara Loka’ for the kids whose mothers are studying or working at the university. The university offers various UG and PG programs under the departments of humanities, social science, science, and technology, etc. along with several Diploma as well as Certificate courses. The university also offers courses through distance education which is recognized by DEC. The university also offers PG Diploma courses, certificate programmes, and dual courses programmes in vocational subjects. These dual certificates can also be pursued while pursuing regular PG courses.

The university has a dedicated placement cell, which they are committed to providing all possible assistance to its postgraduate students in their efforts to find employment. The university also assists the students with Research/Project/Internship work. They act as a bridge between students, alumni and employees. More than 90% of the students were placed and many leading companies came for campus placement like NIIT, SSIT, KPTCL, Jindal, Airtel, Asian Paints, Axis Banks, Cadbury, etc
The campus is spread across 6 acres of land, it is situated 10 km away from the city limit. Even though the university is away from the city, it is well connected to the city through roadways. The university library has a rich collection of books capable of meeting the changing needs and demands of the present and future was established along with the inception of the University. The campus has an indoor and outdoor sports stadium, spacious classrooms, a gym, well-equipped labs, a cafeteria, a medical facility, shuttle services, an auditorium, and many more.
The university doesn't offer any scholarships from the university. But they also consider scholarships from the government such as the vidyasiri scholarship, and the National Science and Technology Department scholarship. They also offer the scholarship, social welfare department where students whose family income is less than INR 2.5 Lakhs annually. They also provide scholarships under various departments like the tribal welfare department, AYUSH department, medical education department, minorities welfare department, technical education department, etc.
